Top Great Britain athlete praises Skyrac Athletic Club
Martyn Bernard, Great Britains top High Jumper, a Silver Medalist at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne clearing a height of 2.26m, was Guest of Honour at the Skyrac Athletic Club awards night held at the clubhouse, Nunroyd Park, Yeadon on Friday night. Martyn competed in the recent IAAF World Championships in Osaka and is also hoping to go to the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Martyn congratulated the athletes, coaches and volunteers with the progress they have made during the recent track and field season. Martyn stated "It is encouraging to see so many young athletes supported and progressing within the sport and also congratulated the club on their fantastic achievements this season, it was especially pleasing to see so many Skyrac athletes in the rankings." Martyn also wished the club continuing success for the indoor season - where for the first time Skyrac will be contesting honours. Martyn was pleased to see the club working with the local community and playing a vital role in the long term development of local young athletes.
Martyn himself started out as a distance runner, but in 2001, made his national and international debut as a high jumper, winning the English Schools' and the u17 AAA's titles with a best of 2.06m
